Pulling teeth and seeing eyes


Medical professionals, other volenteers, and people from around Pike County, Ky crowd in to Pike Central high school for Remote Area Medical's free clinic on Saturday, June 27. RAM provides dental and health car amoung other services to remote areas in the United States and around the world.

Marty Looney of Grapevine, Ky has teeth pulled by Amir Jafari a student of the University of Louisville Dental Progam assisted by Jill Long who is a dental hygenist for the Fayette County Health department. Long and Jafari are volenteering with Remote Area Medical at Pike Central High School in Eastern Kentucky. RAM provides dental and health car amoung other services to remote areas in the United States and around the world.

Wrecked

Two people were injured after a wreck on Friday on South Mayo Trail. Charles Stover was leaving a burial service held for Avonell Powell, when Police said, he attempted to turn south on US 23 in a 2006 Nisan Sentra. He crossed into the northbound lane of traffic and was struck in the right-rear by a 2009 Toyota Tacoma. The Tacoma was driven by Ronald Caudil II, who was on his way to work. Stover and one of his two passengers were injured and taken to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment, their conditions were unavailable as of presstime Friday. The Pikeville Police, EMS and Fire Department responded to the scene.

Bridge the gap

I can't decide on these bridge photos so I will just post a few of my favorites.

I was doing a little trespassing to get this picture, but I didn't realize I was trespassing. The owner of the land came up to confront me about the trespassing. I ended up finding out that he was a contact that I needed to get some shots for The Appalachian News-Express' Pike County magazine natural resources issue. Nice.

Charles Mims, age 69, has been a resident of Pike County his whole life and is currently living on Hurricane. Mims is doing some yard work, which helps him fill his time since retiring in 2002.
